We provide the following dental and periodontal services: 

• Dental implants. When a tooth is missing or unable to be restored, a dental implant provides a replacement option. The implant is surgically placed in the jaw bone to serve as an anchor for an artificial tooth. One implant can replace a single tooth. Multiple implants can support a bridge or dentures. 

• Crown lengthening. Crown lengthening is the removal of gum tissue in order to expose more of the tooth. It can be done for cosmetic reasons to improve your smile or to prepare a tooth to receive a dental crown.  

• Gum recession treatment. When the gum tissue recedes, or pulls away from the teeth, it can lead to sensitivity and lack of support for the teeth. Gum recession treatment is used to replace the missing gum tissue. 

• Periodontal disease. More commonly known as gum disease, periodontal disease is a bacterial infection of the gum tissue caused by plaque and calculus buildup on the teeth. The sooner it is treated the less damage it will cause to the support structures for the teeth. 

• Bone regeneration. The bone of the jaw can weaken and eventually dissolve when a tooth is missing or from untreated gum disease. Bone regeneration strengthens and encourages regrowth of the jaw bone. 

• Platelet rich growth factor. Platelet rich growth factor is a treatment used to help bone regeneration work more effectively. A sample of the patient’s own blood is taken and placed in a centrifuge machine that spins it to separate the platelets, the healing blood cells. A sample with a higher concentration of platelets is applied to the site to promote faster healing and regeneration. 

• Scaling and root planing. This is a two-part procedure used to treat and prevent gum disease. Scaling is the removal of calculus from the roots of the teeth under the gums. Root planing is the process of smoothing out the surface of the roots to allow the gum tissue to attach firmly, eliminating spaces for bacteria to gather. 

• Periodontal maintenance. To keep gum disease from recurring, periodontal maintenance may be necessary. You may need to return to your periodontist for repeat scaling and root planing on a schedule based on the rate that your teeth develop calculus. 

• Restorative and cosmetic dentistry. Procedures that repair damage to the teeth or replace missing teeth are restorative. Cosmetic procedures improve the appearance of the teeth. Restorative and cosmetic dentistry often work together, both restoring dental health and improving your smile. 

• Ridge preservation. The absence of a tooth causes the jaw bone to weaken and dissolve over time. Ridge preservation can be used at the time the tooth is extracted to preserve the bone in the jaw so that it can later be restored with a dental implant. 

• Periodontal surgery. In order to treat or repair damage from gum disease, sometimes surgery is required. The gum tissue may need to be pulled away temporarily to access the tissues underneath, then replaced afterwards. 

• Sedation. We provide sedation for patients who need help to relax and feel comfortable during dental procedures. Sedation may also be recommended for procedures that are lengthy, comlex, or invasive. We offer nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV sedation. 

• TMJ disorders. The temporomandibular joint (TMJ), the place where your lower jaw connects to your skull, can become inflamed due to overuse or injury, resulting in pain and limited range of motion in the jaw. We provide a range of treatments to provide relief of TMJ symptoms. 

What’s the difference between a general dentist and a periodontist?

A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the support structures for the teeth, including the gums, jaw bone, and connective tissue. Your general dentist may refer you to a periodontist for more advanced treatment for an ongoing issue, such as recurring gum disease.

Is periodontics covered by insurance?

Most dental insurance plans cover periodontics as well as general dentistry. Contact your insurance provider for specific information about the coverage under your plan. Also check to see if our practice is in-network with your provider. 

Why is it important for missing teeth to be replaced? 

We always recommend replacing a missing tooth for a variety of reasons. A missing tooth can allow the other teeth to shift out of place, causing orthodontic issues. It also allows the jaw bone to weaken and eventually dissolve, leaving an indentation in your jaw line.
