All-on-4 is a dental implant procedure that is also called Teeth in a Day®. This groundbreaking procedure replaces all the teeth in either the top or bottom of the mouth with non-removable implant-supported dentures. As the names suggest, the procedure can be performed in one day and uses four or more dental implants to support all of the new teeth.
Although All-on-4 implants can provide you with great esthetics and function, they are still major investments in your oral health. If you have or want Teeth in a Day ®, you’ll want to know how to keep them clean. You will need to apply excellent home care of your new teeth with regular dental visits to achieve long-term predictable results.
Products for Cleaning All-on-4 Dental Implants
While dental implants look and feel like natural teeth, they are made from different materials. As such, you may not be able to use the same products to clean your teeth as you did before.
Below is a general list of products you may need to keep your All in 4 dental implants clean and healthy:
- Floss
- A water pick
- Antibacterial mouthwash that is not alcohol-based
- Electric toothbrush with a small head, the round ones typically work best
Some optional tools can make it easier to get food debris out of hard-to-reach crevices:
- Flexible, small toothpick, such as a doctor’s toothpick
- End tuft brush
- A rubber tip tool for polishing
Your dentist may be able to recommend some specific tools and products that can help.
Cleaning Your All-on-4 Dental Implants
Your dental cleaning routine will likely be different after getting your All-on-4 Dental Implants. However, with a little time, it will become an old habit. Best of all, keeping your implants clean will help ensure they last a long time.
Here are the general rules to follow for cleaning All in 4 dental implants:
- Clean under the bridge after every meal
- Once per day, use your water pick
- Brush your teeth twice daily
- Brush your tongue and cheeks every time you brush your teeth
- Get professional dental cleanings every three months
Your water pick solution should be made of one part antibacterial mouthwash to three parts water. Remember to use non-alcohol-based mouthwash.
Just like with natural teeth, you should brush your All-on-4 dental implants for two minutes each time. Including your cheeks and tongue helps get rid of bacteria too.
If you have questions about how to floss, pick, or brush your new teeth properly, ask your dental care team. There’s no need to be embarrassed. It’s their job to help you, and they are happy to do it!
